Psoda to fly Kiwi flag at Cloud Expo Asia

Psoda Cloud Expo Asia. See us at stand G10

For a long time, New Zealand tech entrepreneurs have looked eastward to the US West Coast and Silicon Valley for inspiration and the chance to break in to a big overseas market.

However, I believe by doing so they’re missing out on the great opportunities that lie to our west in the fast-growing East Asian economies.

It is for this reason that Psoda will be flying the flag for Kiwi innovation at Cloud Expo Asia in Singapore this November.

The conference is set to be the largest cloud event in the region this year and having a presence there is a unique opportunity for us to showcase Psoda to a large, new audience of decision makers.

This exposure should help build Psoda’s profile in the Asia Pacific markets and will allow us to establish relationships with potential clients and channel partners across the region.

But, as excited as we are about being present at Cloud Expo Asia, we are surprised that it appears we’ll be the only New Zealand company not only exhibiting and presenting at the event, but also attending it.

While Kiwi firms tend to try break into markets like Australia, the US or even the UK first, we believe Asia Pacific presents massive opportunities for New Zealand technology exporters.

The region is home to some of the world’s largest population centres and fastest growing economies, and these are right on New Zealand’s doorstep.

Australia may be our closest export destination, but the size of its market pales in comparison to Indonesia or the Philippines, for instance. And although the distance between New Zealand and the US West Coast is similar as that to Singapore, Manila or Jakarta, the latter are all gateways to arguably significantly larger populations than LA or San Francisco.

What’s more, while the US is still in a recession, Asia is set to grow at 5.7% in 2013, according to the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

Such growth generates increased infrastructure development, more construction projects and higher educated middle-class populations, which all drive demand for technology.

At Psoda, we’ve got a good track record supporting infrastructure projects and we offer the tools that enable such programmes and projects to be delivered on time and on budget, so the opportunities for us in this region are self-evident.

In fact, my presentation at the event I will focus on how three Australasian transport agencies successfully used our tools in large projects.

Similarly we see tremendous potential in these rapidly growing economies for the innovation and expertise offered by other New Zealand technology companies.

So we’d like to urge fellow local tech firms to cast their sights westward, to the opportunities waiting in the East.
